Changing Map Colors
It is often desirable to change the vegetation
or water highlight colors on a map so that annotations stand out with more
contrast, or to highlight features (like water). Version 7 includes a map color
changer that automates this process.
You can see color
changing and hillshading in action in

Igage enhances All Topo Map's ability to change
colors and match adjacent maps by color normalizing scans to a fixed set of USGS
base colors. The contour lines, vegetation, PLS layers and hydrologic features
share the same color sets across the All Topo map collection. (BLM 100K Surface
Management maps and some orthophotoquadrangles are processed with huge palettes
to preserve as much printing detail as possible.)
Starting with a base map (quadrangle or BigTopo):

choose the main menu selection "Options: Modify
Map Colors..."

The "Map Color Changer" dialog is shown,
double-click on the 'Displayed Color' you want to change (in this case we will
mute the greens, set the PLS grid to blue and highlight water features):

the 'Color' selection dialog is shown, choose a
replacement color, repeat for other desired changes.
