Q0010    Exporting Sec Twn Rng Annotations to Shapefiles without Diagonal Lines

If you search for a PLS (Township Range Section) location with the PLS Tool and check the 'Draw' box:

and press the 'Add Annotation at Coordinate' box, you will get an annotation on the map:

Now, if you export a shapefile (using "Annotations: Import/Export: Export Shapefile") you will get a shapefile that looks like this:

Before we turn off the diagonal line (from the center of the box to the corner) let us first encourage you to NOT remove the diagonal line:

Suppose you have a series of descriptions which plot this way:

You can quickly see that the center 1/4 1/4 is NOT included in the description because:

1. There is not a dot in the center

2. There is not a diagonal line.

If we get rid of the diagonal lines, then the image looks like this:

There is NO indication that the center 1/4 1/4 is NOT included in the description.

So, it is with some reservation that we mention that you may remove the diagonal line by using the 4th box on the Coordinate Location box to specify that the center dot me moved to a corner:
